Pac 12 Predictions: Week 7

ESPN served its Thursday night audience Arizona State at Colorado. It spotlighted the leader in the Pac 12 South, as well as allowing us a bird’s-eye view of Folsom Stadium with few asses in the seats. With a 51-17 victory, Sparky easily ran its record to 3-0 in conference, and will prepare for Oregon next week.

The Pac 12 this weekend will feature two out of conference games, with those outcomes having a direct impact on the BCS standings to be released on Sunday.

No. 17 Stanford (4-1) vs No. 7 Notre Dame (5-0)
The Irish reeled seven straight victories over the Cardinal, before losing three times to Andrew Luck. Stanford now looks to build on the streak, with the ball in the hands of Josh Nunes. Notre Dame finds itself in the national championship hunt and will need a victory on Saturday to stay there. If the Irish can push aside the Cardinal, it will be their third ranked victim in the last four games, and guarantee a high computer score.
All-Time Series: Notre Dame leads 17-9
Line: Notre Dame -7
Prediction: Notre Dame 24, Stanford 13

No. 10 Oregon State (5-0) vs BYU (4-2)
BYU is 5th in the nation in total defense, and Oregon State just lost its quarterback. The initial thought is that the football Gods are smiling down on Provo Utah, but the Cougars still offer very little offense. The Beavers will escape with a victory, despite the absence of Sean Mannion.
All-Time Series: 5-5
Line: BYU -5.5
Prediction: Oregon State 17, BYU 13

No. 11 USC (4-1) vs Washington (3-2)
It’s strength versus weakness, as the Trojan defensive front should have its way with the Husky offensive line. Full Preview HERE.
All-Time Series: USC leads 50-28-4
Line: Washington +13
Prediction: USC 42, Washington 20

Utah (2-3) vs UCLA (4-2)
It was foreseeable that the Bruins would fall to Cal last week, as you saw in last Friday’s predictions. It is also predictable that UCLA will rebound with a win over Utah. The Utes continue to struggle in conference play and the bleeding won’t stop on Saturday.
All-Time Series: UCLA leads 8-2
Line: UCLA -9
Prediction: UCLA 28, Utah 16

Cal (2-4) vs Washington State (2-4)
This game may be a turning point for one of these teams, as each tries to regain their footing on a road to bowl eligibility. A loss creates less room for error the rest of the way, where a victory becomes a confidence builder in a season that appeared to escape them. Cal is superior in talent and should easily send the Cougars to their fourth consecutive loss of the season, and eighth straight in this series.
All-Time Series: Cal leads 43-25-5
Line: Washington State +7
Prediction: Cal 23, WSU 13

Bye: Oregon, Arizona

Upset Alert

No. 22 Texas A&M (4-1) vs No. 23 Louisiana Tech (5-0)
This game was originally scheduled as an opener for both teams, but weather prevented it from happening. Instead, we find the two meeting in week seven, and both branded with a ranking. A&M has spent years embarrassing the Big XII, and without bias, will do the same for the SEC. I’m taking Tech to pull the upset at home, and for the Aggies to somehow blame it on Texas.
All-Time Series: A&M leads 10-0
Line: Louisiana Tech +8
Prediction: Tech 45, A&M 42

Last Week: 3-1
Season: 12-9
