Aztecs dismiss RB Dillon Baxter

For the second time in six weeks, Dillon Baxter may be searching for another jersey to pull over his pads. The tailback was dismissed from the San Diego State football program on Wednesday, after transferring south from USC in January.

Baxter was booted from the Trojan football program back in October, and would later transfer to hometown San Diego State for a fresh start.  He was slated for eligibility in 2013, in accordance to NCAA transfer rules.  But plagued with the same academic issues, he will never appear in an Aztec uniform.

The dynamic runner was projected to follow in the footsteps of other San Diego high school greats, and even drew comparison from Lane Kiffin to former USC star Reggie Bush.  But immaturity negated all the physical talent, never allowing it to be displayed. As one of the most heralded 5-star recruits of 2010, Baxter’s name was immediately placed on a list of players with potential to win the Heisman Trophy before their college careers were done.  The name is now more likely to appear on another list, one that features the biggest recruiting busts.

Baxter appeared in 14 games as a Trojan, for a career mark of 281 rushing yards and just a single touchdown.
