Matt Kalil honored as first-team All-American

Matt Kalil was selected to the Walter Camp All-America team for 2011, which ends a one-year hiatus of Trojan inclusion among the honorees. The tackle is the lone player from USC to be listed among the first-team. Wide receiver Robert Woods received second-team honors.

Taylor Mays was a first-team All-American in 2009, but Trojans were noticeably absent in 2010, after a run of 8 consecutive years with at least one player representing the program on the Walter Camp list. Kalil becomes the first Trojan offensive lineman to be honored since Sam Baker in 2007.

Robert Woods was present in Orlando for the ESPN awards banquet. The Biletnikoff finalist came up short in his bid to claim the highest award bestowed upon a college wide out, with Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon claiming the hardware for the second time in as many years.

Woods joined Keyshawn Johnson, Mike Williams, and Dwayne Jarrett as the only USC players to be named Biletnikoff finalists, but no player from the school has ever won the award.

Representing the Pac 12 among the first-team All-Americans is Stanford’s Andrew Luck (QB), Jonathan Martin (OL) and David DeCastro (OL), along with Oregon’s LaMichael James (RB) .  Luck was also the recipient of the Johnny Unitas and Maxwell Awards, as well as Walter Camp’s choice for Player Of The Year.
