Empire Picks-Week 8

The Pac 12 weekend began with a 48-12 Arizona mugging of UCLA on Thursday night. That leaves just five games on the prediction slate, with one being an out-of-conference rivalry.

Pac 12

#10 Oregon @ Colorado
Line: Oregon -31
Prediction: The Pac 12 newcomers haven’t fared well in conference (not that Colorado fared better in the Big 12), and things are about to get even uglier for the Buffaloes. The good news would be Colorado playing at home, where it won it’s only game this season. The bad news is the Buffs not beating a BCS opponent in Boulder since last November.
Oregon 54, Colorado 18

Utah @ California
Line: Cal -1
Prediction: A battle of two teams expected to be better than the numbers show. Utah’s struggles can be credited to the loss of quarterback Jordan Wynn. Cal’s struggles may actually be the healthy Zach Maynard still starting. The Utes are coming off a victory over Pitt, but similar to this weeks opponent, has lost 3 consecutive games in conference. Something’s gotta give.
Cal 24, Utah 21

USC @ Notre Dame
Line: Notre Dame -9.5
Prediction: Without doing the research, this may be the first time in 10 years that the Trojans enter this game as the underdog. Full preview HERE.
USC 38, Notre Dame 35

#25 Washington @ #8 Stanford
Line: Stanford -20
Prediction: The Huskies have surprised a lot of people, and has a slim chance of pulling the upset on Saturday. Ever noticed how “slim” is better defined as “keeping it close”, but falling to defeat anyway?
Stanford 42, Washington 31

Oregon State @ Washington State
Line: Washington State -3
Prediction: This is our coin toss game. I’ll give the edge to the Cougars at home, but not by much. I guess that would mean the Beavers have a “slim” chance in this one.
WSU 27, OSU 21

Bye: Arizona State

#20 Auburn @ #1 LSU
Line: LSU -20
Prediction: Despite suspensions, LSU should roll. Auburn hasn’t exactly faded in the absence of Cam Newton, but lacks the firepower to attack and compete with this LSU defense.
LSU 31, Auburn 17

Upset Alert

Maryland @ Florida State
Line: FSU -18
Prediction: Neither team is ranked, but 18 points is too generous for a Seminoles team that hasn’t lived up to expectations. Fear the flag!
Maryland 28, FSU 20

Last Week: 7-2

Season Scoreboard

Pac 12: 39-8
Landscape: 8-4
Upset: 2-4
Overall: 49-16
