Empire Picks- Week 6

There was an ISP switch that kept me offline for a couple of days last week, so the picks for week five were never posted. But now I’m back and fully operational, as we enter the sixth week of the college football season.

Pac 12

Cal @ #9 Oregon
Line: Oregon -24
Prediction: The Ducks have scored 50+ points in each game since the opening loss to LSU. The Bears came close to winning this game a year ago, limiting Oregon to the fewest points scored in 2010 (15). But this is a different Cal team, and more importantly, one that struggles defensively.
Oregon 52, Cal 20

#22 Arizona State @ Utah
Line: Arizona State -4
Prediction: Utah is still winless (0-2) in the new Pac 12, but not out of running for the conference championship game. This is a key match-up in the South, as a win for Arizona State would solidify it in the driver’s seat, and a victory for the Utes would allow them to control their own destiny.
Arizona State 27, Utah 17

Arizona @ Oregon State
Line: Arizona -2
Prediction: Both programs are off to a poor start, but each has a different reason. Arizona has played and lost its last four against the ‘who’s who‘ of college football. Oregon State is winless, including losses to ‘who’s not’.
Arizona 48, Oregon State 13

Colorado @ #7 Stanford
Line: Stanford -29.5
Prediction: Similar to Utah, Colorado still hasn’t won a game in the new conference, and isn’t likely to get that first victory this week.
Stanford 49, Colorado 12

Washington State @ UCLA
Line: UCLA -4
Prediction: When progression meets regression, you get this game. It’s a coin flip.
WSU 34, UCLA 33

Bye: USC, Washington

#3 Oklahoma @ #11 Texas
Line: Oklahoma -10.5
Prediction: First of all, let me say it’s pretty amazing that Texas was able to sneak from unranked to No. 11 in the country without beating a single ranked team, while the Sooners fell two spots, though it defeated one on the road. Don’t you just love the AP?
Oklahoma 30, Texas 21

#17 Florida @ #1 LSU
Line: LSU -13.5
Prediction: You won’t find another undefeated team that has played a more difficult schedule, which is exactly why LSU is the top ranked team in the country. Another ranked program will fall victim to the Tigers on Saturday.
LSU, 34, Florida 27

Upset Alert

#15 Auburn @ #10 Arkansas
Line: Arkansas -10
Prediction: No one would have thought after the Utah State scare in week one that Auburn would be ranked 15th in week six. The toughest games seem to come out of conference, where it picked up its only loss to Clemson. The Tigers have won 12 consecutive SEC games, with the thirteenth now in the crosshairs.
Auburn 26, Arkansas 21

Season Scoreboard

Pac 12: 30-6
Landscape: 5-3
Upset: 2-2
Overall: 37-11
