Empire Picks-Week Four

The fourth week of college football features four games that place top-25 ranked teams on the same field, and neither will include a member from the Pac 12. But league play is now in full swing, and through conference cannibalism, we will separate the contenders from pretenders.

Pac 12

UCLA @ Oregon State
Line: Oregon State -5
Prediction: The bad news for Oregon State is that it’s the only winless team in conference. The good news is the return of the all-purpose performer James Rodgers. The bye week also allowed Mike Riley two weeks to prepare for a punch-drunk Bruins team that has lost its confidence.
Oregon State 29, UCLA 21

Colorado @ Ohio State
Line: Ohio State -16.5
Prediction: It’s Colorado, in road unis, at the Shoe. Need I say more?
Ohio State 38, Colorado 17

Cal @ Washington
Line: Washington -1
Prediction: I originally chose Cal to be a serious contender in the Pac 12 North. After three games, I’m not impressed. The Bears don’t appear to be as strong defensively as they were a year ago, which spells trouble against the Sarkisian offense.
Washington 38, Cal 35

#10 Oregon @ Arizona
Line: Oregon -15
Prediction: Arizona is on a two-game losing streak, getting embarrassed in each. Now it stares down the barrel at a third. In two games versus ranked opponents, the Wildcats offense has scored a combined total of three touchdowns. It will take more than that to upset Oregon.
Oregon 46, Arizona 18

#23 USC @ Arizona State
Line: Arizona State -2.5
Prediction: Full Preview HERE
USC 24, Arizona State 21

Bye: Utah, Washington State, Stanford

#14 Arkansas @ #3 Alabama
Line: Alabama -11
Prediction: Petrino vs Saban. Offense vs Defense.
Alabama 23, Arkansas 12

#7 Oklahoma State @ #8 Texas A&M
Line: A&M -4.5
Prediction: The Aggies are on a farewell tour, and will be tested for the first time this year. It’s hard to judge by the earliest opponents, but I’m willing to give A&M a slight defensive edge and the victory.
Texas A&M 41, OSU 38

#11 Florida State @ #21 Clemson
Line: Clemson -2.5
Prediction: Florida State’s tough play in the loss to No. 1 Oklahoma last week showed that it’s about a year away from title contention—and just hours away from beating Clemson.
Florida State 21, Clemson 10

Upset Alert

Notre Dame @ Pittsburgh
Line: Notre Dame -7
Prediction: Tommy Rees is a turnover machine. And though he managed to get away with it at home last week, he won’t on the road at Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh 27, Notre Dame 23

Season Scoreboard

Pac 12: 27-4
Landscape: 4-1
Upset: 2-1
Overall: 33-6

Last Week: 10-2
