Eagles Fly-by targets Steve Smith

Just when you thought it was over, Andy Reid fires another shot. This week’s Eagles fly-by targeted the Giants and former Trojan Steve Smith. The unrestricted free agent has signed with Philadelphia in a reported one-year deal, leaving New York in the rear-view after a 4-year stay.

Smith is still recovering from microfracture knee surgery, and is likely to begin the season on the PUP list. It’s that surgery that may have led to the Giants’ hesitation in resigning their Pro Bowl receiver. Philly will eventually include him to a roster featuring DeSean Jackson, who recently ended a 12-day holdout in a contract dispute, and Jeremy Maclin, who is M.I.A with an undisclosed illness.

Steve Smith becomes another big name addition to the Eagles in their Summer shopping spree. He was a collegiate All-American and National Champion at USC, and set a Giants record for single-season receptions (107) in 2009.
