Empire picks Week 9

No. 15 Arizona @ UCLA

Norm Chow’s offense struggles to score points (a theme 3 years and counting). Arizona presents the Pac 10’s best defense. The Bruins need 3 victories to become bowl eligible. They won’t get one on Saturday.

Line: Arizona -9

Prediction: Arizona 24, UCLA 13

Cal @ Oregon State

The Jekyll and Hyde Bears are 0-3 in road games and will play it’s fourth in Corvallis on Saturday. The Beavers’ 119th ranked defense (90th vs run) may be just what the doctor ordered as a cure for road woes.

Line: Oregon State -3

Prediction: Cal 27, Oregon State 20

No. 13 Stanford @ Washington

Jake Locker and Andrew Luck square off in a battle of future NFL first-round draft selections. A 70 percent Locker won’t beat a 100 percent Luck, and mostly because he isn’t surrounded by talent good enough to step up and support him while he’s ailing.

Line: Stanford -7.5

Prediction: Stanford 38, Washington 26

Washington State @ Arizona State

Hot seat coach vs a coach slowly turning the corner ( a very wide angle). Washington State may not win another game this year, but should at least be competitive in Tempe.

Line: Arizona State -21

Prediction: ASU 28, WSU 17

No. 8 Utah @ Air Force

The Utes have quietly flown under the radar and sits among the nation’s top-10 teams. The Falcons will end a two-game slide by stunning Utah at Falcon Stadium.

Line: Utah -7

Prediction: Air Force 35, Utah 34

No. 1 Oregon @ No. 24 USC

Tut, tut, it looks like rain. With the forecast calling for possible showers in Los Angeles, Kiffin said the weather would hurt both teams. Nice try, Lane, but though LaMichael James in among the Heisman favorites, Allen Bradford is best built for foul weather.

Line: Oregon -6.5

Prediction: USC 41, Oregon 38 (yes, this is a homer pick, just live with it)
