Pakalolo sidelines Baxter for Hawaii opener

Aloha is a Hawaiian word with a double meaning.  And in regard to USC’s Dillon Baxter, the word won’t be used as a “hello” to his collegiate career, but as a “goodbye” to his season debut.

Lane Kiffin has suspended the tailback that wowed spectators during spring practices, citing a violation of teams rules, but refusing to expand further with details. Since the initial report, sources have indicated that the suspension arose from an off-field incident involving the freshman, a dorm room, and pakalolo, which is better known as marijuana to those of us living on the mainland.

It is THIS INCIDENT REPORT from USC’s judicial affairs that is being linked to Baxter, with the occurrence taking place on August 9th and a one-game suspension issued the following day.

Besides for the meeting with Kiffin, Baxter also met with new Athletic Director Pat Haden to talk about his actions and the penalty.  Hopefully this is a lesson learned early, so he doesn’t become another promising athlete wrecking future earning potential for something that goes up in smoke.

USC kicks off the 2010 season in Honolulu exactly 3 weeks from today.  Baxter is a talent loaded with expectations, and we’ll have to wait a little longer to see if he can meet them.

Fight On!
