No Duckin’ it: QB Masoli dismissed from Oregon program

For Oregon’s Jeremiah Masoli, 2010 has been a year of legal woes with no apparent end in sight.  A burglary and subsequent guilty plea prompted a year long suspension from the Oregon football team.  But even so, there were still some that wondered if Chip Kelly would cave and give his star quarterback the “Blount” treatment, reinstating him during the stretch run of the season, before his entire suspension was served.

Questions of the quarterback’s possible 2010 revival  have been laid to rest, and any control Kelly had of the situation is lost.  Masoli has been dismissed from the Oregon football program, following his most recent run-in with the law.

“He knew what he had at stake,” Kelly told The Oregonian. “We set parameters for him and it was up to him to make sure that he followed through. We had a plan in place, he had an opportunity to come back in 2011 and he failed to do the things that he needed to do.”

Masoli was arrested on Monday night for driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana.  It became the straw that broke the camel’s back, and he becomes another on the list of Oregon football players to be removed from the program since January.

After a stellar 2009 performance that saw him lead his program to the conference crown and a Rose Bowl appearance, Masoli, if eligible, would have started the season listed among the nation’s Heisman Trophy front runners.
