Kevin Ellison arrested

It’s not the prettiest offseason for former Trojans, and the news keeps getting worse. Chargers safety Kevin Ellison has been arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Ellison was arrested Monday afternoon after a traffic stop and search led to the finding of 100 vicodin pills. He was released on $10,000 bail.

The arrest occurred Monday afternoon in Redondo Beach, after the safety was pulled over for exceeding the speed limit in a school zone. According to officers, Ellison didn’t have a prescription and the amount of pills confiscated is larger than a pharmacist would distribute.

Ellison was was a sixth round steal for the Chargers a year ago, eventually starting 9 games as a rookie for the club. He was a unanimous Pac 10 first-team defense in his final season at USC.

The Ellison arrest adds to an offseason list of former Trojans making headlines for substance abuse. Rey Maualuga was arrested for a DUI in February, and most recently, Brian Cushing was issued an NFL suspension for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.

One Response to “Kevin Ellison arrested”

  1. Sounds like he was arrested near Redondo Union where he went to HS, right down the block from here. Was he hangin’ with HS friends? Bad mistake.

Health & Safety Code 11350 makes it a felony to possess narcotics such as cocaine, crack, heroin, ecstasy, ketamine, GHB and even prescription drugs such as Vicodin or Codeine (if they’re not lawfully prescribed). A person convicted of “possession of a controlled substance” faces up to three years California state prison. But most people accused of this crime are eligible for Proposition 36 or PC 1000 drug diversion.
