Christian Tupou tears ACL

Cinco De Mayo comes as a bearer of bad news for Christian Tupou. The Trojan senior becomes the only casualty of last Saturday’s spring game, with confirmation of a torn anterior cruciate ligament that may scrap him for the entire 2010 season.

Though the Trojans lose their most experienced defensive lineman, the news isn’t all bad. A loss in other areas may have been devastating come fall, but the line  is one area of the defense containing depth.  Both DaJohn Harris and Hebron Fangupo are expected to fill in nicely.

The other medical news involved Matt Barkley, who can now breathe a sigh of relief, after the result of examinations showed no structural damage to his throwing hand,  and listed it as nothing more than a bruise. The projected starter told ESPN that hitting a teammate’s helmet during the spring game was like striking a brick wall with full force. He also indicated that he had a sore shoulder after all the spring drills, but will be ready to go when camp resumes at the end of summer.
