Clay Helton leaves Red Wolves for Trojans
Clay Helton has been added to the football staff in what ESPN’s Bruce Feldman calls a “role to be determined”. He had just recently accepted the position of offensive coordinator for Arkansas State, and obviously USC had no difficulty dislodging him from the prior commitment.
Helton spent ten years fulfilling a variety of roles for the University of Memphis before leaving the program in December. He finished as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, but also developed wide receivers and served as assistant head coach during his stay.
NBC sports affiliate Collegefootballtalk.com is also reporting that Brendan Carroll is leaving the staff, though I thought he was already gone. Carroll coached tight ends and played a role in recruiting under his father, and there was never an indication that he would be retained by the new boss.
