The Pro Bowl welcomes another Matthews
Bruce Matthews played fourteen Pro Bowl seasons in the NFL. His brother, Clay, was a four-time selection to the same NFL postseason All Star game. And now following a family tradition, the nephew and son of bloodlines past, Clay Matthews III, will appear in his first Pro Bowl.
In a remarkable rookie season, the Former Trojans linebacker registered 10 sacks for the Green Bay Packers, and is added to the Pro Bowl roster in replacement of the Bears’ Lance Briggs. Green Bay will face Arizona in the opening round of the NFL playoffs tomorrow.
Clay Matthews joins former teammate and fellow linebacker Brian Cushing on the Pro Bowl roster. He also becomes the first Packers rookie since James Lofton in 1978 to be selected to the Pro Bowl. Cushing was also honored by the Associated Press as the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year.
