O’Dowd out with dislocated Kneecap
USC has suffered another offensive setback. One week after losing Aaron Corp to a cracked fibula, the Trojans learn that a dislocated kneecap will sideline center Kristofer O’Dowd for nearly a month. And though many would consider a quarterback to be the greater loss to an offense, it’s the O’Dowd injury that could have more of an impact on production.
The interior line has depth, with plenty of players capable of performing the required tasks. But when you lose O’Dowd, you lose one of the nation’s best interior linemen, if not the best overall. The junior appears on the Remington watch list, and some NFL draft gurus have his name scribbled as a first round lock, if he decides to leave at season’s end.
The offensive line and secondary are the strongest units heading into 2009. It’s that line that is to make the transition of a new quarterback more comfortable and power the running game. The timetable for O’Dowd’s injury has him missing the opener, and teetering on a return for the big game in Columbus Ohio.
