Aaron Corp on the O’Brien watch list despite never starting a game
The 2009 Davey O’ Brien watch list includes the familiar names of McCoy, Bradford, and Tebow, who also happen to be three of the Heisman favorites. But there’s another quarterback on the list that is a virtual unknown, and is likely to go unidentifed in photo displays. That’s USC’s sophmore gunslinger, Aaron Corp, who for the moment appears to be the heir apparent to Mark Sanchez.
What’s most remarkable about Corp appearing on the list isn’t just that he’s never started a game, because the same can be said of Taylor Potts. But where there’s little doubt that Potts will start for Mike Leach’s Red Raiders this fall, Aaron Corp has yet to be guaranteed anything.
Pete Carroll declared Corp the winner of the spring quarterback competition, but he still has to hold off Matt Barkley and Mitch Mustain to solidify his status this fall. In a sudden turn of events, the Davey O’Brien Foundation could have a player listed on their watch list that is also watching the games from the sidelines.
The O’Brien Trophy is rewarded annually to the nation’s top quarterback.
