Trojans gain huge commitment from 5-star Zach Banner
The Trojans gained a huge commitment from 5-star offensive lineman Zach Banner on Monday. The Lakewood Washington product pledged USC over the in-state Washington Huskies, scoring another Lane Kiffin victory of longtime friend Steve Sarkisian.
In Banner, the Trojans receive a mass of talent (6’9-310 lbs) to compete for a tackle position vacated by All-American Matt Kalil. The big man’s versatility is displayed in being a two-sport high school star, who also welcomes the opportunity to perform on the Galen Center hardwood.
Washington was easily thought to be the recruiting front-runner, having a leg up on the competition by location alone. Banner was named All-State football player by the Seattle Times, and All-Area by the News Tribune. Rivals.com rates him at 5-stars and 16th best overall prospect for 2012.
Banner made recruiting visits to Michigan, Oklahoma, Washington and Notre Dame. His final visit was to Southern California on January 20th.
